Commissioner Yvette Colbourne was first elected in 2013 as a Miramar Commissioner. Since then, she has dedicated herself to improving the quality of life in Miramar, championing diversity, and advocating for the well-being of the entire city, towards creating a unified community, "One Miramar." Her commitment to these values has made her a beloved figure in the community.

Unwavering dedication

Commissioner Colbourne's dedication to her city has been unwavering. She served two terms as Vice Mayor, demonstrating her leadership skills and commitment to the city's growth. Currently, she serves as Chair Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, (MPO) where she plays a crucial role in shaping the future of Transportation for Broward County. Additionally, she severs on the board of the National Cities Hispanic Elected Local Official and served as the 2024 President of the National League of Cities Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) Constituent Group, further highlighting her leadership within the national municipal community.

Actively Involved

Before stepping into elected office, Commissioner Colbourne served the public for 30 years as a Miami Dade County Administrator. She was also actively involved in her community, serving as the President of her Homeowners Association, Vice Chair of the City of Miramar Economic Development Board, Member of the Civil Service Advisory Board, and Member of the Broward County Diversity Committee.

Professional growth

Commissioner Colbourne's commitment to personal and professional growth is evident in her educational accomplishments. She is a graduate of the "Good Government Initiative" from the University of Miami's Leaders of Excellence Program for Elected Officials, showcasing her commitment to effective governance. Commissioner Colbourne's academic achievements include a Master of Public Administration and a bachelor’s in business administration from Nova Southeastern University. Her educational background has undoubtedly contributed to her success as a dedicated public servant.
